Therapist Thoughts: “I wish more people understood you can have a ‘good’ childhood and still experience trauma.”

Let’s talk about it: Your childhood may have looked “good” to others on the outside OR actually felt good most of the time inside.

But, yet you felt like:

Your parents were physically there, but emotionally distant

  • You had intense pressure to perform, achieve, & prove your worth

  • You were responsible for caring for everyone

  • You had to “keep the peace” at all costs to avoid upsetting someone

This is more common than people think.

We often associate trauma with big events like abuse, accidents, or losses.

But, the truth is: the “small” (daily) things add up too.

Now, I’m not saying everything is trauma.

But, I am sayings this: If an experience or dynamic impacted you emotionally… AND it’s still affecting you today… It’s worth paying attention to.
